Open The Gate, one of the most active cultural organisations in London proudly invites you to celebrate its 6th Anniversary at RichMix, the independent art venue and cultural centre in the heart of Shoreditch, East London.

The event will showcase 13h non-stop of Live Music on stage crossing all the borders from Somalia to Mexico passing by Mozambique, Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone and the Caribbean. Festivities also include educative and participative activities for kids and the renowned African Market presenting fashion, arts and crafts from Africa and African inspired.

For one day only, Open The Gate transforms RichMix’s main space into a unique experience: be welcome in a homely atmospehere with many Arts & Crafts and fashion stalls, a Living room area, traditional homemade African food and unique Live music show.

The day will kick off with a drumming workshop by Drum Song for everyone to join and learn African rhythms. It will then be followed by Live Music back to back with the legend of African music, master percussionist Baba Adesose Wallace ( from Nigeria, will then transport the audience into a blend of blues, jazz, afro funk and psychedelic music with his distinctive sound emerging from the use of traditional African instruments. Aar Maanta ( bringing on the stage an eclectic mix of styles blended with traditional Somali music draw from diverse range of influences such as Arabic or Indian sounds. Followed by Native Sun, a duo from Mozambique and Jamaica fusing Hip Hop with African rhythms, soon joined by Bocafloja ( straight from Mexico! Then, we will welcome on stage Nelson & Friends ( a new Afro-fusion project, which blends Mozambique music with jazz and funk. The band have gained a whispered reputation for their irresistible rhythms and captivating melodies, which make it impossible for even the most reluctant dancer not to get up on their feet and move. Afterwards, it be will time for the energetic, funny and deeply inspiring storytelling performer, Usifu Jalloh The Cowfoot Prince ( who will take you on a journey to Africa. Finally, to cloture this day of celebration, Afrik Bawantu ( led by Ghanaian percussion master Afla Sackey will take you into a musical blend of traditional Ghanaian music with Afro-beat grooves and some funky twists.

In between the Live Acts, Open The Gate Sound will be at the controls with Fenomeno Show & Sam U Roy, featuring friends DJs and MCs!

Meanwhile during the whole event The renowned African Market will showcase talents from Africa and inspired by African cultures: an incredible variety of stalls, from fashion, arts & crafts, design, jewellery, books, music, culture. There will be also face-painting and glitter tattoo for the young ones and adults too! More than an exhibition and trade space, The African Market is a place of curiosity attracting an eclectic mix of people including families, young people, students & adults, and a networking platform both for traders and interested visitors, connecting amateurs, professionals and passionates.
