While the world may be stalled, step up and take the ride from the opener ‘Greed On Fire’ all the way to the pinnacle at ‘Mercy’s Edge’.
Over the last 30 years, Joseph Parsons’ prolific resume reads like an exercise of artistic endurance, with ‘At Mercy’s Edge’ being the 14th solo release of his career. On top of this, there have also been 6 live albums under his own name, as well as 10 further releases as a founder/ member of bands such as U.S. Rails, Hardpan and 4 Way Street and 3 releases as part of Parsons Thibaud duo with fellow U.S. songwriter Todd Thibaud. ‘At Mercy’s Edge’ is reminiscent of some of his earlier work with three-and-a-half minute deep dives highlighting our worlds troubles as well as stories of flawed yet potentially redeemable characters.
With the benefits of years under his belt, Joseph’s voice and his long-term recording / touring band have never sounded better. His many album releases and standout live shows connect in a personal and inspirational way with audiences throughout Europe and on his occasional trips back to his original homeland. Over the last few years, Joseph has now added the U.K. to his touring schedule resulting in a growing reputation both through word of mouth and personal experience.
The band, together since 2008, exude a powerful brotherhood on stage. In 2019, between German and Italian concert tour legs, they took time to capture that essence in recording sessions in Germany and Slovenia. The result is the latest release At Mercy’s Edge. “Recording while on tour is a real luxury as we are musically fully engaged and focused. The band is in top form and we are having a blast hanging out with each other. Traveling excites the senses, brings an x-factor & extra mojo to the music. A wonderful way to make records!” says the reserved Parsons.
Based now in northeast Germany and spending his downtime between there and Berlin, Joseph has recently added a studio to his home allowing him to write and record whenever inspiration strikes. Now in his 50s, Joseph is still looking to the future with further albums already in the pipeline.
‘At Mercy’s Edge’ is just one more step on that road. Uncut Magazine (UK) rightfully calls him an “experienced dealer in emotions”. And Radio Bremen (DE) declares his music to be “dynamic, intense & intoxicating.”
